Appearing at… for the next two weeks—come see me!

The next two weekends will see me staying busy at some local comic shows, so make your plans now to come out, have some fun, do some geeky stuff, see me and talk about comics!

This weekend, Sunday, Nov 13, I’ll be one of several guests at the Daytona Beach Comic Con. Also there you’ll find my pals Jeff Whiting (who’s running a kickstarter: go support him here: Shanghai-Breathing Fire) and John Crowther (who will be joined by artist Dell Barras and promoting their kickstarter. Go pledge to it here: Nikolai). The Riley and Kimmy show will be there talking about all things geek (maybe I can twist his arm to talk to me again?). If you’re not listening to the show, what’s your excuse? Listen here! There will be others there, too, so plan to go!

You can “join” the event at this link: https://www.facebook.com/events/244038252638629/

Or you can simply “like” the event at this one: https://www.facebook.com/Daytona-Beach-Comic-Book-Convention-109085789161874/

Do both and I’ll see you Sunday!

Me talking with Patrick of the Riley and Kimmy show at the last Daytona Beach Comic Con:

Then, next week, I’ve got two separate events; so if you can’t make it to one you can make it to the other. On Saturday, Nov 19, I’ll be at SmashCon in Sanford, Florida. It will be my first time there, but this will be the 8th year for the show. I’m excited to be a part of the show as the proceeds (some? All? Not really sure about the specifics) go to benefit Toys for Tots. Also there will be comic legend and superstar (as well as one of my all-time personal favs!) George Perez!

You can “join” the event at this link: https://www.facebook.com/events/1564137850555216/

And then the very next day, Sunday, Nov 20, I’ll be a guest at Clermont Comic Con. The Clermont show has also been around for a while, but this will be my first time there, too. The exciting thing about this show is there is a whole bunch of comic book makers there: George Perez, Chuck Dixon, John Crowther, Karl Moline, Pat Broderick and a host of others. You can find the link here: Clermont Comic Con!

I’ll have my books with me that you can pick up—they make GREAT Christmas gifts, and now is the time to start doing your Christmas shopping. Autographs are free from me at all of these events! If you’ve already got something I wrote, you can bring that for an autograph, too! Either way, get your geek on and come see me!

ACME Comic Con report and Daytona Beach Comic Con

As the weather begins to warm up down here in sunny Florida, convention season is also kicking in to high gear! The ACME one day show at the ACME Superstore on Feb 27 was a smashing success. I was next to my good pals Barry and Jenny Gregory and there were a LOT of comic book creators there. It reminded me much of the great shows I attended in the late 80s early 90s when you could walk by the tables and buy actual COMIC BOOKS from creators instead of just pin-up art. Needless to say, I was very impressed with the show. I was surprised, however, by the fact that none of my “comic writing” students showed up for the event. What a terrific opportunity to meet people actually making comics and they were no where to be seen. What is it they say about leading a horse to water?

ACME produced a “thank you video” after the event and if you’re watching closely, you can spot me and Barry a couple of different times. Here’s that video.

I’m anticipating great things for this upcoming one day show in Daytona Beach. This will be my third time to do a show at Tom Raupp’s fantastic event and I’m super thankful he’s inviting me back. If you’ve seen me post about this show before, you already know my thoughts: fantastic show with a LOT of comics. If you like to buy and read comics, this is the local show for you. There are probably more comics for sale at this one day event than at the “major” shows I’ve been to in the area where the focus in on tv and movie actors. (I don’t have a problem with them, but sometimes don’t understand why they are at a “comic” convention). Here’s the link to the Daytona Beach Comic Convention page on Facebook. You want to know what my problem with the Daytona show is? Well, thanks for asking—I’ll tell you. Not enough TIME! You see, of course I’m there to sign my books for readers and fans and to promote my work for new readers and fans…but doggone-it, I like to read comics, too! I want more time to shop! I know what you’re saying: “just do it.” Well, there’s usually so much traffic with the creators that I can’t get away that much. This is good thing and not a bad thing, but there are so many comics there that I want to spend more time shopping. Last time I walked away with a stack of about 30 comics!

So, It won’t just be me there, you can also meet comic creators (and my pals) Barry Gregory and Jeff Whiting (who’s running a Kickstarter—click below and go pledge before he’s done! )…and a host of others. Come see me!

Daytona Beach Comic Con

Sunday will be my last show for 2015 as I’ll be a comic guest at the Daytona Beach Comic Con in—of all places—Daytona Beach, Florida! And hey all you north of Florida…yeah, it’s still not “jacket” weather here yet, some come on down!

If you’ve got an hour to kill—which I know MANY of you do during your commutes—pop on over to the Riley and Kimmy Show and listen to me and Patrick chat it up for a bit. We talk a little of everything comic related; writing, conventions, comics moving from the periodical (or floppy) format to trades/graphic novels, access/distribution, my time as editor for Marvel/Malibu…and even get to talk about my current day job: teaching creative writing students how to write comics (yes, it’s a cool job. No, you can’t have it!). So give it a listen and show some love to the Riley and Kimmy Show!

The Daytona Beach Comic Con made the news, too: http://buff.ly/1Qj8JYt

In other news…well, 2015 is rapidly coming to an end. Man but they fly by faster and faster, don’t they. Dunno if I’ll talk much about them before the new year—probably not—but I’m real excited about a couple of projects that I’m hoping will see light of day in 2016! So, stay tuned here and I’ll be showing some art soon, too!

Lots of bad news around the world these days. Let’s try to remember that and everyone make and effort to be a little nicer to others. Here’s my challenge to you: think of that person in your circle who is diametrically OPPOSITE of you (politics, religion, whatever)…and make it a point to BE NICE to them regardless of whether they’re a jerk to you or not. Hey, SOMEbody has to start it, right?

So, this is where I’ll be Sunday: http://daytonabeachcomicconvention.com/

Drop by and say hi. Perfect time to pick up some books from me—they make GREAT Christmas presents. I’ll even sign them—for FREE! (just don’t tell Neal Adams!)
